Core Values

Preschool and Home

At Humpty Dumpty, we recognise how vital the school, home, and community environments are to the development of each child's natural curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. One of the most authentic ways to advance children’s development socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually is through a partnership that endorses the family/preschool bond; where the preschool is an extension of home and where teachers are collaborators with caregivers in laying foundations for learning.

Humpty Dumpty continuously evolves to prepare children for the modern-day world. Through our teaching roles and responsibilities, preparation and planning, and supportive structure, we have a shared accountability to the development of the whole child, giving each one of them every opportunity to grow.

Democracy

Both children and adults at our preschool have influence in daily activities and are able to help influence the content of our work. The preschool staff allow the children's own ideas, plans, imagination and creativity to be expressed in play and learning both indoors and outdoors. We listen to each other's opinions and the children have the opportunity to come to joint decisions by, for example, voting or holding discussions.

Learning is more than just mastering skills. It’s developing the ability to think with mindfulness, truth, creativity, and confidence. Learning to think challenges young children to question, predict, hypothesise, and interpret. This skill needs to be supported and nurtured, and at Humpty Dumpty, children are invited to think, feel, believe and realise their true learning potential.

The children at Humpty Dumpty are encouraged to develop character, strength, and motivation to acquire new skills to build upon what they already possess. In this environment of inclusion and acceptance, each child's voice is valued. Humpty Dumpty’s balanced approach to learning provides both the structure and the freedom necessary to inspire children toward active learning and to empower them to understand their feelings and themselves.

Humpty Dumpty nurtures a community of children who learn to question, build, and grow in their beliefs, friendships, knowledge, and understanding. Here, children receive support as they develop a healthy awareness of self-respect and self-esteem. Children are given guidance as they meet their world with challenges and inspiration on an appropriate developmental level.

Solidarity

It is important that everyone shows empathy, respect and consideration for each other. That we care for each other and stand up for each other. By learning and taking part in fun activities together, we raise a sense of togetherness and community.

The Equal Value of All People

All people are unique and all people are equally valuable. It is important to respect everyone for who they are, no matter their background, religion, gender, sexuality.

Everyone should have the same opportunities. All children are given the opportunity to form their own opinions and make choices based on their own circumstances. All children are given the same rights and obligations.

At Humpty Dumpty, we work to counteract traditional gender roles and gender patterns. All children are able to develop abilities and interests regardless of their gender.

It is important to be yourself and we adults strive to strengthen children's self-confidence. At Humpty Dumpty, we do not accept any form of bullying or deviant violent behaviour.

Environment

We strive to provide the children with a safe and harmonious environment that invites the children to play and activity. The environment inspires and arouses children's curiosity for discovery and learning. The teachers see each individual child's possibilities and conditions and plan the environment around those. Having fun together is an important part of this. We adopt an ecological approach and contribute to the children gaining an understanding of the eternal cycles of nature.

Security

It is important that the children feel safe and secure at our preschool, which is why we have established rules and daily routines. We always let the children know what is going on and they should feel that there is always an adult at hand. Teachers are good role models for the children. By working according to our core values, we create both an external and internal security for the children, which they hopefully take with them outside the preschool as well.
